Mission

Historically, AEI's mission has focused on two areas: (1) raising consciousness about the dangers of fossil fuel dependency and the viable alternatives to fossil fuels, and (2) linking consumers with suppliers of alternative energy. However, AEI is expanding its focus on the basis that there is no progressive change toward sustainability without taking a systemic approach that includes one essential element: community.

Activities

1) Disseminates information through AEI's newsletter, Web site, and other media opportunities about solutions that are being implemented today in the area of community-based sustainability and the potential for future community-based initiatives and collaborations between organizations committed to sustainability and state-of-the-art solutions. 2) Works on experiential and service learning opportunities that link students with real-life, hands-on experiences that emphasize viable solutions to the environmental challenges we are facing and what they can do in their personal lives and leadership positions to grow these systemic solutions. 3) Networking between organizations, communities, businesses, agencies, individuals, programs, etc. to grow community-based sustainability.
