DEUS's mission is to achieve sustainable, safe, reliable, and affordable energy and urban water outcomes for the people, economy and environment of NSW through the delivery of policy, regulations and programs.

DEUS is responsible for developing policies and new initiatives on energy demand management, including the establishment and operation of an $40 million per annum Energy Savings Fund. DEUS is also responsible for programs established by the former Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) in the areas of demand management, energy efficiency and renewables.
