• The development and the promotion of renewable energy sources (wind, solar, biomass, hydro or any other form of renewable energy known, or proves to be of interest in the future).

• The promotion of the conservation and rational utilization of energy

• The contribution in order to expand the usage of financially viable energy technologies.

    In order to implement its aims, the CIE is involved in relevant international programmes, co-operates with similar international institutions, uses consultants or specialized scientists (local or international experts) when the need arises, undertakes applied research, provides technical aid and information and generally presents a lot of activity in the field of information and promotion of new innovative energy technologies and especially in the utilization of Renewable Energy Sources (RES)

The Cyprus Institute of Energy is active in the following fields:

Support for the development of applied research, innovative technologies, pioneering units and commercial applications, in relation to the RES sectors, and conservation and rational energy utilization.

Applied research programmes and studies (technical, economic, market feasibility, legal, technology transfer) for the Institute or others, co-operating with international organizations and especially with members of the European Union.

Commission of  the above research programmes or studies to be (fully or partly) carried out by third parties.

Provision of  technical consultation services (tests, measurements, evaluations, certifications, e.t.c.), technical information (technical specifications, manuals, designs, software, e.t.c.), and any other advice to third parties.

Organization or participation in conventions, meetings, technical seminars, training programmes, publicity campaigns, for the promotion and the effective use of RES as well as the conservation and rational use of energy.

Provision of training (technical, financial, e.t.c.) in Cyprus and abroad of both Cypriot and foreign specialists.

Demonstration of new systems of energy conservation and exploitation of RES.

Promotion of the international co-operation for the promotion of its own activities and for other local bodies, which are engaged in related matters.

The international co-operation of the Institute includes the undertaking of common programmes with international organizations or foreign research centres, its association with international certification and data base organizations.

Establishment of agreements for the partial execution of international energy programmes, in Cyprus or abroad, and the representation of the Institute at international forums.

Provision of assistance for the preparation of standards for the local renewable energy industry.
