Mission

The CER is working to ensure that consumers benefit from regulation and the introduction of competition in the energy sector.
 

Activities

The CER has to promote competition in the generation and supply of electricity and in the supply of natural gas, secure that all reasonable demands by final customers of electricity for electricity are satisfied and to secure that there is sufficient capacity in the natural gas system to enable reasonable expectations of demand to be met. Moreover CER promotes the continuity, security and quality of supplies of electricity and natural gas, promotes safety and efficiency on the part of electricity and natural gas undertakings. Furthermore CER secures that licence holders are capable of financing the undertaking of the activities which they are licenced to undertake and promotes the use of renewable, sustainable or alternative forms of energy.
