The mission of the e8 is to play an active role in global electricity issues and to promote sustainable development.

The e8 provides human capacity building to developing and emerging country utilities, government entities, and organizations on electricity related issues. The e8 Group implements renewable energy, rural electrification and GHG reducing projects in developing and emerging countries, using both e8 and external funds. The e8 monitors current issues facing the electricity industry while publishing position papers and joint statements through its various Committees and Working Groups and organising discussion forums on topics of importance to the electricity sector. The e8 Education for Sustainable Energy Development Scholarship Programme supports Masters and Post-Doctoral level students from developing countries who are pursuing studies in sustainable energy development.
