Founded in 1996 with the main mission of implementing the energy generation from biomass through efficient processes, CENBIO is the Brazilian Reference Center on Biomass,

Located at the University of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil, CENBIO works on research and development of technological, economic, social, environmental and institutional studies related to biomass conversion and use, together with other (national and international) groups, in the scientific, technological, industrial and agricultural sectors.

CENBIO is also in charge of activities regarding the dissemination of information on biomass for energy, such as the publication of Revista Brasileira de Bioenergia (Brazilian Bioenergy Magazine), CENBIO Notícias (CENBIO News), as well as the organization of seminars and workshops with all the involved sectors.

CENBIO creation is a joint initiative of:

- The Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT);
- The São Paulo State Secretariat of Energy;
- The University of São Paulo (USP);
- The Biomass Users Network from Brazil (BUN).
