Mission

The Centre for Energy Policy and Economics (CEPE) was established in 1999 as an interface between technology, economy and society. Its aim is to enlarge the natural science and technically oriented disciplinary spectrum of the ETH domain by contributing to research and teaching in energy policy and economics. The thematic focus on energy includes both energy supply and energy demand.
Through its national and international interdisciplinary research and advisory activities, CEPE points out opportunities, risks, and obstacles related to developments in energy technology and industry; supports necessary transformations; and contributes to energy innovations in business and technology. CEPE seeks to improve the bases for decisionmaking by business and government with analysis of energy economics and policy issues, the drafting of energy policy options and scientific analysis of energy policy programs. In addition, CEPE educates students at the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zürich and Lausanne by providing a curriculum of lectures and seminars as well as colloquia on energy policy and economics.
Energy services contribute enormously to humanity’s well-being. Producing them in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner is a challenge for society as a whole. CEPE accepts this challenge as a guiding principle of its work.
