The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade was created by President Putin on 17 May 2000. It is tasked with infrastructure development, economic forecasting, market reforms, and the coordination of domestic and international trade. The Ministry of the Economy, the Ministry of Trade and some functions of the Federal Currency and Export Control Service (VEK) were absorbed by this ministry.
