The main aim of China's Center for Renewable Energy Development is to be a research and developing agency lead directly by the Energy Research Institute (ERI). Their primary task is to take part in the process of carrying out research work on technologies and strategic policies of renewable energy and rural energy in order to further the promotion of renewable energy technologies.

With support from departments and agencies related to the research and development of renewable energy, the center has worked on setting up a pertnership with international research agencies in the field of technologies and strategic policies researche. Together with these partners, the center hopes to promote renewable energy technologies.
