CBDA was established on 26th Jan. 2005 by Government of C.G. following the report of "National Mission on Biodiesel" submitted by planning commission, Government of India in the year 2003. C.G. State Government further formulated an exhaustive programme for producing biodiesel in substantial quantities over next 7 to 8 years.

By the year 2007, almost 1.54 lac hectares of fallow/field bunds land is slated to be brought under Jatropha plantation, an 84,000 hectare plant.
