West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency, formed in the year 1993, has a mandate to promote Renewable Energy technologies and create an environment conducive to their commercialisation through innovative projects.
 

Since inception, WBREDA has implemented a large number of programmes related to Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Mini & Micro Hydel, Bio-energy, etc.Today, West Bengal is one of the leading states in the country in respect of utilisation of Renewable Source of Energy. More than hundred thousand families of West Bengal are now using electricity derived from Sun, Biomass, Wind etc. In the rural areas of West Bengal, 150 thousand families are using Bio-Energy for cooking purpose. WBREDA has set up one unique Energy Education Park in the country at the city of Kolkata.

WBREDA's present activities deal with Solar Energy, Bio Energy, Wind Energy, Tidal Energy and small hydel.
