They are the national voice of of municipal governments since 1902. Their mission is not to miss great opportunities for a country with much talent, technology and resources.With more than 1,775 members, FCM represents the interests of municipalities on policy and program matters that fall within federal jurisdiction. FCM includes Canada's largest cities, small urban and rural communities, and provincial and territorial municipal associations.

They lobby the federal government to include their concerns when making policy, and that benefits every municipal government as well as every tax-payer.. They determine chances and challenges for communities within the national Framework for Air Emission, and the proposed Framework for waste-waters. They also collaborate with their counterparts in Third World countries in order for them to achieve their goals in a professional way.
