The focus of YOUNICOS is storage technology and the integration of renewable energy into isolated grids. The storage technologies the company works with are: Li-Ion batteries, Vanadium-Redox Flow Batteries and Sodium Sulphur batteries. The Pilot project is the electrification of the Azorean Island Graciosa with a 100% RE penetration most of the time and an annual share of 75% RE. The core components are the island inverters with a 3MW/18MWh NaS-Battery. Start of operation will be the end of 2012.

• Graciosa Energy

  YOUNICOS is building a renewable energy system for the Azorean island Graciosa which will produce 75% of the electricity by 9 MW wind and 1MW sun. The core component is a 3MW/18MWh Sodium Sulphure battery with intelligent inverters. The system allows to have the Diesel generator switched-off most of the time. The start of constraction will be in the beginning of 2012. The system is price competitive to the current diesel based system.
